Assam boy in Indian shooting team

GUWAHATI, Oct 1 - Hriday Hazarika, a 14-year old national rifle shooter of Assam in 10 meter air rifle event is selected for the Indian shooting team to participate in the 9th Asian Airgun Championship to be held in Iran in December, a release said.

The top shooter from the State will represent the country in youth category (U-18). He would be the third shooters from Assam to be in national shooting team.

Hriday hails from Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district who started his career at Sankardev College shooting range. He has already participated in three national championships, two zonal competition, one GV Mavlangkar shooting competition, two KSS shooting championships. He won five gold medals so far. He won gold with a new national record of 618.8 points in his youth category at 15 KSS Shooting Championship last year in Trivandrum. He also represented Assam in the 35th National Games held in 2015 in Kerala.

Presently he regularly practice at Assam Rifle and Shooting Association shooting range at 4 APBn Kahilipara under the guidance of Bhaba Kalita, secretary of the State shooting body.
