By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, Dec 30 - In what could be called a clinical bowling performance by two left armers Mrinmoy Dutta and Rahul Singh helped Assam defeat Tamil Nadu by 52 runs in the Col CK Nayudu Under-23 Trophy here at the SM Dev Stadium on Monday. With this win, Assam bagged vital six points as well.

Carrying forward a lead of 31 runs, Assam resumed the innings on day four on a rather unpleasant note losing Mujibur Ali with just one run added to the overnight score of 107. Soon, the innings was wrapped up at 143 runs courtesy a fine spell of quick bowling by H Trilok Nag who picked five wickets in the innings. Assam set a target of 175 runs for Tamil Nadu to chase.

In reply, Tamil Nadu were bundled out for 122 runs in 39.4 overs. Skipper S Radhakrishnan along with middle order batsman K Vishal Vaidhya tried to give the side some glimmer of hope as they batted with grit and resilience . However, it was the trusted bowling pair of Mrinmoy and Rahul who did the damage and picked up wickets at crucial intervals. Mrinmoy picked four wickets to scalp nine wickets in the match while local boy Rahul Singh chipped in with three wickets taking his tally to seven wickets in the game.
