BONGAIGAON, Sept 6 - The 48-hour Assam bandh called by Pradip Ray faction of All Koch Rajbongshi Student�s Union (AKRSU) was by and large peaceful in Bongaigaon district barring some stray incidents. The picketers staged a blockade on the highway and burnt tyres on roads in support of the bandh.

Markets, shops, banks and some offices remained close during bandh hours on Wednesda, while educational institutions were functioning with less student attendance. Rail communication was normal during the bandh.
