Assam ahead of other states in MGNREGA implementation

GUWAHATI, Dec 4 - Assam completed the highest number of works in comparison to other states of the country under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) last year.

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley said this today in the Assembly in reply to a question raised by Congress MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar.

Doley said the government has provided 73 per cent workdays to workers having job cards. Altogether 4,603 job card holder families of Assam have got 100 days of work and altogether 1,01,660 job card holder families have got 61-99 days of work in eight months of the current financial year.

Doley further stated that Assam has also achieved immense success in implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). Under the scheme, the State government has set a target to build 1,58,664 houses and construction of all these houses is under way.

Meanwhile, to prevent anomalies, the panchayat & rural development department has ruled that transfer of any permanent or contractual employee shall be made only after permission from the Commissioner�s office, the minister said.
