Assam 182/3 on day one

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 6 It was Assam opener Dhiraj Jadhav again who had to stay at the crease and keep the scoreboard moving. At close of the first day in the four-day Plate Division Ranji Trophy match against Maharashtra, Dhiraj remained unbeaten on 62 and the hosts were 182 for three.

Tarjinder Singh was at the crease with Dhiraj at his individual total of 11.

On a perfect batting track at the Nehru Stadium here today, Assam built a solid foundation through openers Dhiraj and Pallab Das (50) adding 76.

After Pallabs departure, Amit Sinha (21) and Sib Sankar Roy (25) were the other batsmen out today.

It was Pallabs second Ranji Trophy half century in as many matches. He stayed at the crease for 123 minutes and hit 10 boundaries in his 97-ball knock. He was quite comfortable against Maharashtra attack. But suddenly he missed the line of left arm spinner Akshaya Darekar and was bowled.

Dhiraj, who already have scored four centuries in this season, once again showed his class and batted with his head down. His exemplary knock was studded with just four fours. Particularly in the final session he was so cautious that he never took any risk of hitting the ball to the ropes.

Maharashtra bowlers, particularly the pacers, were not so impressive. All the three wickets to fall today were taken by spinners. Altogether 91 overs were bowled today out of which 58 overs were sent down by slow bowlers.
