ASPL quarters from today

GUWAHATI, July 6 � The knockout stage of the Assam State Premier League (ASPL) will kick-start tommorow with two quarterfinal matches. After the gruelling preliminary league phase in Upper Assam and Lower Assam Zones among 12 clubs, four teams from each Zone have qualified for the quarterfinals. FC Green Valley of Guwahati and Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC of Diphu occupied the top slots scoring 25 and 28 points respectively from 10 outings each.

Now FC Green Valley will play their home quarterfinal match at the Nehru Stadium here against Golaghat Rhino, fourth position holder in the Upper Assam Zone with eight points while Morning Star will host Tezpur United, the third position holder in Lower Assam Zone with 13 points, at Diphu.

While the city match will start at 3 pm, the kick-off time for the Diphu encounter is 3.30 pm. The teams will play their return leg quarterfinal matches on July 11. Considering the performance in the league phase, FC Green Valley and Morning Star Karbi Anglong are seemed to be clear favourites in tomorrow�s matches.

In the other quarterfinals, Baarhoongkha AC, Kokrajhar will play against Guwahati FC and Trinayanjyoti Sangha, Chabua will lock horns with Moran Town Club. The first leg of the matches are scheduled for July 8 and the return leg will be played on July 12.
