Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani meet from today

NAGAON, Jan 8 � The second State conference of the Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani (ASS) will be held at Tezpur from January 9 to 11. Jnanpith awardee Kedarnath Singh has consented to attend the session as the chief guest. Nepali writer, critic and professor of the Tribhuvan University Dr Govindaraj Bhattarai, former VC of the Rabindra Bharati University Dr Pabitra Sarkar, former presidents of the Asam Sahitya Sabha Dr Nagen Saikia and Kanak Sen Deka and other eminent personalities of the State from the fields of literature, culture and journalism will attend the session.

This was stated by the secretary general of the Sanmilani, Madhurjyya Mandit Borooah here. He said that the newly-elected president of the Sanmilani, Dr Lakhyahira Das will formally take charge from Dr Hiren Gohain on January 11. He appealed to the trustees, executive members of all district and local units of the Sanmilani as well as the general public to make the session a success.

Borooah further said that the ASS would confer the Sanmilani Jestha Satirtha Samman on Tirtha Lochan Tamuli of Sarthebari, Kasema Khatoon of Dhubri and Akanmai Devi of Nagaon in recognition to their contributions towards establishing the ASS. The Dayang unit of the Sanmilani has been selected as the best from among 108 units of the Sanmilani, he added.
