Asian Tennis Tour tournament from today

GUWAHATI, Nov 15 - The stage is all set for the Asian Tennis Tour (ATT) which will be conducted by the All Assam Tennis Association (AATA) at their Chachal complex here from tomorrow. The final is slated for November 18.

Giving details about the championship, the AATA president Raktim Saikia said in a press conference that the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) has introduced the championship to facilitate the rising players to take part in quality tournaments.

The tournament will be comprising of 16 players (male) in the main draw which includes one player from juniors based on ITF U-18 ranking and one wild card.

Saikia further informed that in this championship only Indian players will contest as the ATT is a development programme and in all the countries under Asian Tennis Fedreation this championship will be conducted.

Two Assam players, Parikhit Somani (direct entry) and Amlan Baruah (wild card entry) are in the main draw for the meet. The other players in the main draw are � Vishnu Vardhan, Sanil Jagtiani, Ishaque Eqbal, Anshu Bhuyan, Kunal Anand, Jatin Dahiya, Arnav Alok Goel, Rohit Rampuria, Mingkhi Talom (Arunachal Pradesh), Bhavesh Gour, Niki Kaliyanda, Suraj Prabodh, Jagmeet Singh, Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash.

ITF Juniors: The AATA will also host the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Juniors at the same venue from November 21 to 25. This world ranking tournament is meant for boys and girls U-18 years, informed Saikia in the same press conference.

A good number of players from the Northeastern region have qualified to take part in the championship. Parikhit Somani is the top seed in the meet while Mingkhi Tolam of Arunachal Pradesh also got a place in the main draw. In the girls section Tanisha Kashyap is in the main draw while Lenien Jamir, Naziya Ahmed, Annie Thaosen and Raina Zafar, all from the Northeast are in the qualifying draw, informed Saikia.

ATTA secretary Ankush Dutta, vice president Subrata Sarma, joint secretary Diganta Gogoi, official Anupam Choudhury were also present in the press conference.
