Ashwajit, Tania clinch AITA titles

GUWAHATI, May 16 - Ashwajit Senjam of Manipur lifted the boys U-14 singles title by defeating state-mate Shanker Heishnam in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 in the AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament which concluded today at the All Assam Tennis Association Complex in Chachal here.

In the girls U-14 singles final, unseeded Tania Kumari of Assam upset her State-mate 3rd�seeded Namrata Das 6-4, 6-2. Boys doubles title was clinched by Assam duo of Harshad Borah and Aman Buragohain.

In the boys U-14 semifinals, 5th�seed Ashwajit Senjam of Manipur defeated 7th�seed Assam boy Harshad Borah 6-0, 6-4 while in the other semifinal 6th�seed Shanker Heishnam of Manipur trounced 8th�seed Sagnik Mitra of West Bengal 6-2, 6-0.

Final results: (Girls U-14) Tania Kumari (AS) bt 3rd�seed Namrata Das (AS) 6-4, 6-2 (upset); (Boys U-14) 5th�seed Ashwajit Senjam (MN) bt 6th�seed Shanker Heishnam (MN) 6-1, 6-1; (Boys U-14 doubles) Harshad Borah (AS)/Aman Buragohain (AS) bt Antariksh Tamuly (AS)/Pritam Baruah (AS) 6-4, 6-4.
