Ashmita, Rishav bag double crown

GUWAHATI, July 7 � City shuttlers Ashmita Chaliha and Rishav Sarma became the proud double crown winners in the All Assam Ranking Badminton Tournament, organised by Guwahati Sports Association in memory of Jagannath Das.

In the finals played at the Kanaklata Indoor Stadium here today, Ashmita won the girls U-13 title defeating her teammate Upasana Borgohain who conceded the match in the second set 21-10, 12-3. Later, Ashmita beat Megha Murchana Bora, also of Guwahati, 21-17, 21-13 for the girls U-15 crown.

Rishav clinched the boys U-15 and U-17 titles beating Bibhaj Jyoti Gogoi of Charaideo 21-17, 14-21, 21-13 and Trideep Boro of Dibrugarh 18-21, 21-17, 21-16.

On the other hand, Hirak Jyoti Neog of Dibrugarh became champion in the men�s category defeating Anshuman Hazarika of Guwahati 21-5, 21-17 in straight games. The women�s singles title went to Kaberi Phukan of Sivasagar. Kaveri got the better of Manali Sinha of Guwahati 22-20, 21-16 in the keenly contested final.

Other final results: (U-10 boys) Hrishav Barua of Dibrugarh bt Anshuman Gogoi of North Lakhimpur 21-10, 21-17. (U-10 girls Minara Pakiza Ullah of Guwahati bt Shibangi Baishya of Golaghat 21-8, 21-6. (U-13 boys) Rajshekhar Das of Nagaon bt Orijit Chaliha of Guwahati 21-19, 21-11. (U-19 boys) Vishal Garg of Jorhat bt Kashyap Neog of Tinsukia 21-12, 17-21, 21-7. (U-19 girls) Moumita Talukdar of Guwahati bt Bornali Konwar of Dibrugarh 21-14, 21-6.

In the closing function, former State footballer Kanak Kachari was the chief guest while Assam Badminton Association secretary Umar Rashid was also present along with GSA officials.
