GUWAHATI, Jan 31: Ashadeep – a mental health society today organised a walkathon themed ‘Walk for Mental Health’ to commemorate 25 years of service in mental health in North East India.

The event was organised to sensitize citizens on mental health issues.

The event was flagged off by the students of Ashadeep from the open space of the Assam State Zoo and ended at Shraddhanjali Kanan with a turn at Jonali point of RG Baruah Road.

The walkathon was followed by a cultural programme. Actor Jatin Borah, singer Krishna Lahkar Bordoloi, senior journalist Pronoy Bordoloi, retired Commissioner, Social Welfare Hemanga K Sarma and educationist Dr Gayatri Goswami among others attended the event.

Organisations like Special Olympics Bharat, Assam; Boudham Parents Association, Assam; Rotary Club of Guwahati South; Seneh, Touching Lives, Giving Hopes; Karunadhara and Lion's Club Guwahati among others participated in the event.

Ashadeep, which started with as a small ‘Day Rehabilitation Centre for Persons with Mental Disorders’ in Guwahati 25 years ago, has today grown into a major non-governmental service provider in mental health in Assam.

The event concluded with a Bihu performance by the students of Ashadeep and the guests present in the event.
