ASEB regain GSA Super League title

GUWAHATI, Sept 9 � ASEB Sports Club regained the RG Baruah Super League Football title, after a gap of 2 years, with a tricky 2-1 victory against defending champions NF Railway Sports Club.

In a keenly contested encounter at the Nehru Stadium here today, ASEB rallied to beat the champions and raised their points to unconquerable 23 after the second match in the championship round.

After a barren first session, NF Railway made a flying start in the second half by going 1-0 ahead in the 46th minute. Sibra Narzary headed home from a crowded goal area. Getting a high ball Sibra back headed the ball into the net.

Stung by the reverse, the ASEB boys made a spirited fightback and levelled the issue in the 64th minute through Ramsang Liana who beat the NF Railway custodian NI Singh with a beautiful volley. Sanatumba Sarma set the ball for Liana with a header and the later banged home with a perfect first timer.

After the equaliser, the ASEB boys took complete control of the situation and outplayed the opponent in every department. Finally, they got the reward of their hard work in the 89th minute when Sanatumba beat fumbling NI Singh in his second attempt. Anticipating a square pass from Jessy Vanlalmuana, Sanatumba deflected the ball into the goal. But it rebounded off Singh�s gloves and in the second attempt, the ASEB striker managed to bulge the net.

In the second match of the day, Green Valley Sports Club hammered Ganga Sports Club 5-2 on the second ground.

Micheal Lucky netted four goals in the 10th, 51st, 78th and added time while Aziz Shah added one in the 21st minute.

For Ganga, John Ozoemene Nwoke scored both the goals in the 69th and 80th minutes.

With today�s victory, Green Valley SC collected 19 points and are at second spot with one match to go.
