GUWAHATI, Aug 11 Former champions ASEB Sports Club were held to a goalless draw by Navajyoti Club in the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah Super Division Football League.

In a keenly contested encounter at the Nehru Stadium here today, both the teams created several openings but could not finish due to some good saves by both the goalkeepers and wayward shooting by the strikers.

The momentum of the game was quite satisfactory as players of both the teams were in hunt of goals from the initial stage. For ASEB, Mendial Rongmei, Nitu Narzary, Syed Ansar and Saurav Chutia, worked hard and dominated the first session with better ball possession. They should have scored at least a couple of goals before the break but Nitu and Mendial failed to hit the target from close range.

Navajyoti strikers Nkenchor Ifeanyi and Jessy Vanlalmuana could be held responsible for squandering some easy scoring opportunities. Despite enjoying territorial supremacy in the second session, Navajyoti could not go ahead only because of below par shooting skills of their attackers.

ASEB defenders, led by Mitradeb Swargiary, today played a decent game and contained the fast moving Nigerian striker Ifeanyi with perfect anticipation.

A Div: Green Valley Sports Club got a walkover against Maharana Athletic Club.

Todays matches: Super Div Sunrise vs GTC; Abutani vs SAI.
