ASEB, Ganga play 1-1 draw

GUWAHATI, Sept 2 - In a high voltage match of the RG Baruah Super Division League at the Nehru Stadium on Wednesday, defending champion Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club (ASEBSC) managed to hold debutante Ganga Sports Club 1-1 and remained winless in new season.

Goal from striker Jwmbla Brahma put the champions in front just after the start which was cut off by Olatunde Timothy from the spot before the lemon break.

Both the teams showed some attacking football from the midfield to upfront creating many counter attacks, as a result goalkeepers had to work hard.

In the 3rd minute ASEB took lead as expected through Jwmbla Brahma after receiving a measured cross from the right flank by Biswajit Boro.

Playing for the first time in Super Division, Ganga gradually started to put pressure in ASEB half. Foreigner Prosper Owyeakazi�s powerful left footer shot was well saved by ASEB goal keeper Daoga Brahma in the 30th minute. Ganga's real chance came in the 35th minute when skipper Olatunde Timothy shot from inside the box was rebounded off the goal bar and goalkeeper saved the second shot.

It was in the added time of first half that saw the Khanapara based side being awarded with a penalty after Prosper Owyeakazi was fouled inside the box. Skipper Timothy made no mistake from the spot and levelled the match. Ganga was slightly ahead in ball possession in first half as well as created many opportunities.

ASEB boys made several attempts although failed to get the required result in the second part. Scorer Jwmbla Brahma created good moves from right flank. In the 75th minute ASEB got a free kick from just outside the box but Rakesh Das�s shot was saved by the diving goalkeeper.

Referee sent off ASEB defender Biswanath Karmakar in the 85th minute and Ganga skipper Timothy in the 87th minute with double yellow cards.

With this result Ganga moved to fourth place in the table with 4 points in 3 matches whereas the defending champion remained in seventh place with 2 points.

A Division: A nine-man Assam Police Blues defeated Dynamo Club 3-1 in a tough contest of Jibeswar Goswami A Division League at Ground 2 of the Nehru Stadium. After scoring three goals in first half the police team involved in violence with referee for which referee showed red card to Karuna Goyari and Munna Limbu in the 56th minute. Sanjay Rabha (20th minute), Karuna Goyari (26th min) and Lohit Taye netted for the police men. Nobin Chawria scored the only goal for Dynamo in 56th minute just before the violence.
