ASEB enter semifinals

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 6 - ASEB Sports Club entered the semifinals of the 11th NN Bhattacharyya Knock-out Football Tournament defeating Navajyoti Club 4-3 in tie breaker in the second quarterfinal at the Nehru Stadium here today.

The well contested encounter ended goal less despite some well planned moves from either sides.

For Navajyoti, Nigerians Timothy Onyenka and Charles Egware put ample pressure on the opponent defence but their finishing was too poor to beat the sturdy ASEB custodian Daoga Brahma. Charles in particular misses atleast a couple of scoring opportunities in one-on-one situation. Another striker Ramsangliana was also looked dangerous in the ASEB striking zone. On the other hand the ASEB frontliners were not effective enough as they looked little rusty. Their leading striker Jwmbla Brahma also hardly could trouble the opponent defenders.

Subroto Saha of Navajyoti was given marching order in the 75th minute for being booked twice.

In the tie breaker, Nitu Narzary, Sanjoy Boro, Biplob Kundu and Daoga hit the target while Santumba Sarma skied the ball. For Navajyoti only Tomothy Onyenka, Athang and custodian Mulya Rabha were the successful shooters as Ginlalzem and Charles failed to shoot home.
