ASEB emerge champs in ID Cup

NAGAON, Dec 5 - ASEB Sports Club, Guwahati lifted the Independence Day Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory against Shalbagan Football Club Gossaigaon.

In the title clash at the Nurul Amin Stadium here this evening, Rahul Das (43rd minutes), Jwamla Brahma (47 minutes) and Jessy Vanlalmuana (60th minute) netted one goal each for the winning team.

It was for the third time that the Guwahati Sports Association�s Super League champions clinched the title in this premier football meet of the State. Earlier they won the trophy in the year 1986, 1995.

It was an exciting encounter as both the teams adopted attacking tactics from the initial stage. But the ASEB strikers showed more accuracy and sharpness in shooting at goal.

The final was officiated by Dulal Ahmed and he was assisted by Ghanasyam Das, Pabitra Bora and 4th referee Luku Das.

In the closing function State Sports Minister Ajit Singh was present as chief guest. Assam Football Association secretary Ankur Dutta, Assam Olympic Association treasurer Raj Kakoti were also present on the occasion which was conducted by the NSA secretary Pradip Kumar Hazarika.
