Asam Sahitya Sabha to celebrate Lummer Dais birth anniversary tomorrow

By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, May 30 - The Asam Sahitya Sabha, the apex literary body of Assam, will celebrate the 81st birth anniversary of noted litterateur Sahitya Surya Lummer Dai on June 1. But unlike in the previous years, the late literary icons birthday celebration is likely to be a low-key affair this time around, a Sabha official stated.

The Asam Sahitya Sabha has decided to go for a restricted public celebration in view of the COVID-19-induced lockdown as well as the social distancing norms and other government guidelines, which are in place to combat the global pandemic.

Dais birth anniversary will be celebrated at the central office of the Asam Sahitya Sabha in Jorhat and nine regional offices of the literary body across Assam on Monday. Lamps will be lit in front of the celebrated novelists portrait, following the social distancing protocol, Sabha secretary general Jadav Sarma said in a release today.

He also called for commemoration of the day by paying homage to Dai and lighting a lamp at the Bihpura-based Lummer Dai North East Centre for Language, Literature and Cultural Research, and the Lummer Dai Bhavan at Tezpur.
