Arup Kumar Dutta�s The Bag released

GUWAHATI, Nov 12 - �I have written my new novel The Bag, in the backdrop of insurgency and have tried to analyse how violence affects the different strata of society,� eminent author Arup Kumar Dutta said on the occasion of the release of his novel at a function organised by the North East Writers� Forum (NEWF) here on Sunday evening.

The novel was released by PJ Baruah, Executive Editor, The Assam Tribune, in presence of Dhruba Hazarika, president of NEWF; Swapnil Bharali, secretary, NEWF, and Nirmal Bhattacharjee, publisher and CEO of Niyogi Books in front of a large gathering.

In an interactive session with Dhruba Hazarika and the audience, author Dutta said that the novel tries to give the reader the historical background leading to the outbreak of insurgency in the State. The characters in the novel have been delineated keeping in mind the passions, the sentiments and the objectivity of the evolving situation, he added.

Author Dutta, who is recognised today as the first professional writer in the State, has to his credit a large body of work which includes books for young adults, fiction and non-fiction and has been honoured with the Padma Shree by the Government of India.

Earlier, releasing the novel, PJ Baruah said that more books should be written on the turbulent days of the insurgency in Assam so that future generations could understand the sacrifices made by a generation of young men and women.
