Arunachal�s COVID tally surges past 10,000-mark

ITANAGAR, Oct 2 - The COVID-19 cases in Arunachal Pradesh crossed the 10,000-mark with 224 more people testing positive on Thursday.

The new cases include six security personnel.

With the detection of new cases, the State�s tally surged to 10,020.

At the same time, the State also saw release of 159 patients following their recovery, pushing the number of total recoveries to 7,049.

The State currently has 2,955 active cases, while 16 people have died of the virus, according to a bulletin issued by the State Directorate of Health Services.

Of the fresh cases, Itanagar Capital Complex alone accounted for 89, followed by West Siang (24), Lohit (20), Lower Siang (14) and Tirap (10).

Changlang reported eight cases, Upper Subansiri seven, Tawang and Lower Dibang Valley six each, and East Siang, Longding, Kurung Kumey and Papum Pare five cases each.

Namsai and Lower Subansiri reported four cases each, East Kameng three, Siang, Upper Siang and West Kameng two each, and Shi-Yomi, Pakke Kessang and Kra Daadi one each.

Of the new cases, 58 are symptomatic and the remaining 166 asymptomatic, the bulletin stated.

A PTI report from Itanagar adds:

�Four Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel and one jawan each of Army and Assam Rifles are among the new patients,� State Surveillance Officer Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Eight Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel and three health workers also contracted the disease, the official said.

The recovery rate among the COVID-19 patients in the State stands at 70.34 per cent, he added.

The Capital Complex region, comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, has the highest number of active cases at 1,582, followed by Papumpare (196) and West Siang (193), Jampa said.

A total of 2,50,993 samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far, including 2,554 on Thursday, he added.
