Arunachal to get human rights commission soon

ITANAGAR, Dec 4 - A full-fledged Arunachal Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) will be constituted shortly.

A meeting of the selection committee was held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pema Khandu to make recommendations for appointment of chairperson and members of the APSHRC.

The members of the committee � State Assembly Speaker PD Sona, Home Minister Bamang Felix and Home Commissioner Kaling Tayeng � were present in the meeting.

The State Government has decided to constitute the APSHRC in pursuance of Section 21(1) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. It is a major policy decision of the State Government so that complaints pertaining to violations of various types of human rights can be redressed with the setting up of the APSHRC, stated an official release.
