Arunachal planning to replace IRBn with CRPF

By The Assam Tribune

Itanagar, Sept 17 (PTI): The Arunachal Pradesh government today said it was contemplating replacing the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) with CRPF for effective management of law and order.

Admitting that the three battalions of the force lack proper training due to shortage of senior officers, Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu said that they might be replaced with CRPF personnel. A Congress Legislature Party meeting has been convened today to take a decision in this regard, Khandu said, adding that he would also call an all-party meeting soon.

To help IRBn personnel in acquiring proper training for tackling crimes, he said "We are planning to send them to Naxal-hit areas to cope with varied situations if all the elected representatives agree to it."

On recent incidents of alleged atrocities by IRBn personnel on civilians across the State, Khandu told reporters here that it is due to "improper training".
