ITANAGAR, Jan 4 (PTI) - Arunachal Pradesh weightlifter Hitlar Tagru won three gold medals in the 6th National Youth Weightlifting Championship held at Yamuna Nagar in Haryana.
Tagru, first lifted 96kg in the snatch event to finish on top in that category, he then followed it up with a lift of 122kg in the clean and jerk to once again claim the top position. And hence, the total lift of 218kg (96+122) finally gave him his third gold medal in the 62kg weight category.
Tagru lifted 6kg more than his best effort in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship which was held at Penang in Malaysia, where he had won the bronze medal, said Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) joint secretary and Arunachal Weightlifting Association President Techi Abraham.
Hailing from remote Tali area of Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh, Tagru is a student of Army Sports Institute in Pune.
