Arunachal Guv, CM greet people on Yoga Day eve

ITANAGAR, June 20 - Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (retd) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have extended warm greetings to the people of the State on the occasion of the 5th International Day of Yoga.

Appealing to citizens to participate in the Yoga Day programme, the Governor, in his message, said that yoga is an ancient traditional Indian concept and practice which controls and synthesises the body, mind and spirit for the general wellness of human beings. It is also one of the most precious gifts of Indian knowledge and consciousness to the world.

With �Climate Action� being the theme of this year�s Yoga Day celebrations, the Governor expressed confidence that the universal fraternity celebrating the day would attract everyone�s attention the world over towards the imperatives of the climate on this planet.

Khandu, in his message, called upon the people of the State to actively participate in the Yoga Day celebrations. The Chief Minister will attend a Yoga Shivir here along with his ministerial colleagues and others at the Civil Secretariat.

Aizawl Correspondent adds: The 5th International Yoga Day will be celebrated across Mizoram on June 21. In Aizawl, Assam Rifles, Central schools, Field Outreach Bureau and other Central departments and organisations will have special programmes to celebrate the Yoga Day.

�Assam Rifles will organise programmes at different locations in the State,� a PIB statement said.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has instituted the First Antarashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman (AYDMS) from this year to mark the contribution of media in spreading the message of Yoga. The Samman to be conferred on Media Houses would be given under different categories.

Dimapur Correspondent adds: Nagaland Governor PB Acharya on Thursday said yoga is not a religion, but a way of living that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy body.

He appealed to the people of the State to participate in the International Yoga Day, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday to begin a healthier lifestyle. He hoped that the yoga day would continue to promote a healthy mind and body.

In his message, the Governor said yoga is one of the most invaluable gifts of the ancient Indian tradition and is universally accepted as one of the most ideal practices of mankind.

Yoga, which originated in India nearly 5000 years ago, embodies unity of mind and body, and promotes harmony amongst the people and nature, he said.

Acharya said yoga provides physical and mental well-being of the people, besides encouraging a more holistic approach towards good health and happiness.

�For sound health and mind, we need to incorporate yoga as part of our daily life. Yoga helps promote balanced development,� he said.
