Arunachal Cong announces lists

ITANAGAR, March 17 � The ruling Congress in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday announced its full and final list of candidates for both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

The announcement was made by Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Mukut Mithi at a press conference here at Rajiv Bhawan.

�The list of candidates including that of two Lok Sabha seats has been approved by the Central Election Committee of Congress party,� said Mithi.

Both sitting MPs � Takam Sanjoy and Ninong Ering, who is also the Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, have been re-nominated for the elections, said the APCC chief.

Among the notables who got the party nod for the Assembly polls are: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki from Sagalee assembly constituency, Ministers Tanga Byaling (Nacho), Setong Sena (Nampong), Kalikho Pul (Hayuliang), former Chief Minister late Dorjee Khandu�s son Pema Khandu (Mukto in Tawang) and Bosiram Siram (Pasighat East).

Former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin (Liromoba), former Deputy CM Kameng Dolo (Pakke-Kessang), former Ministers Chowna Mein (Lekang), Jarbom�s elder brother Jarkar Gamlin (Aalo East) also got party tickets.

Those missing from the list included sitting Minister Atum Welly (Pakke-Kessang), parliamentary secretary Pasang Dorjee Sona (Mechukha), sitting MLA Ralom Borang (Mebo) and Tani Loffa (Seppa West).

Among the new faces are Rajya Sabha MP and APCC chief Mukut Mithi�s son Mutchu Mithi (Roing).

Mithi said, �Winning prospects of candidates have been the main factor for their selection, and in some cases, there was only one candidate�. Tuki said, almost 75 per cent of the candidates including him were less than 50 years of age.

PTI adds: BJP in Arunachal Pradesh released its first list of candidates for the April 9 Assembly elections in the State, which includes former Chief Minister Gegong Apang.

The names of 36 candidates were finalised by the central leadership in New Delhi on Saturday, party spokesman Techi Necha said.

The party is to declare its second list today, Necha added.
