SIVASAGAR, July 2 - In a heart-rending instance of criminal negligence of ailing parents, an artiste couple committed suicide at their rented house near ASTC Tiniali here yesterday.
The man, a reputed theatre personality of the State Rajani Khargharia was found hanging by the ceiling ventilator with three letters addressed to his son working in the ONGC pleading for money for buying life-sustaining medicines for his ailing wife Rubi Khargharia. Rubi�s body was on a bed in the same room.
Rajani Khargharia was the producer of Samrat Theatre. He also produced a popular TV serial �Doinandin� on Doordarshan and was a recipient of the Moonlight Media award in 1996. Khargharia (69) was also a successful businessman and owned the Kalanchupar Hotel in Sivasagar Central Market which he reportedly sold away to bear expenses for his son�s education.
The police recovered two letters from the room, one written on June 18 and the other on June 23 besides a suicide note allegedly blaming their son and daughter-in-law for continued negligence. Police sent the bodies for post mortem and investigation is on. The death of the artist couple has cast a pall of gloom across the artist fraternity of the State.
