Article 244 (A) for Karbi Anglong demanded

DIPHU, Dec 2 � With the Karbi militant outfit United People�s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS), signing a tripartite memorandum of settlement with the Centre and State government in New Delhi on November 25, the CPI (ML) party along with other non-political organisations namely the Karbi Students� Association (KSA), Karbi Nimcho Chingthor Achong(KNCA), Karbi Anglong and HC Hilss Kichan Sramik Sabha (KANKISS), All India Students� Association (AISA), KSKA and KRY have demanded immediate implementation of Article 244(A) of the Constitution in the district.

Asking the Government to implement Article 244(A), the CPI (ML) with the support of its partner organisations took out a rally from their party office to the Deputy Commissioner�s office, headed by the senior leaders of the CPI (ML) comprising Selawar Bey, Rabi Kr Phangcho, Samson Kiling, Balindra Saikia, Pradeep Engleng, Pratima Enghipi and Laichang Engleng and submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram through the Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong district for immediate implementation of Article 244(A).

While briefing the reporters, senior CPI (ML) leaders Selawar Bey and Rabi Kr Phancho admitted that sans the implementation of Article 244(A) people of the hill district will never be satisfied and no permanent peace will last here. Article 244(A) is the only option to establish permanent peace and development for the people of Karbi Anglong, the leaders added.

The Central and State government instead of implementing the Article 244(A) which is the constitutional rights, is delaying it. Till the implementation of the Article 244(A) movement will continue in the district, the CPI (ML) leaders said.
