Arrest kingpins of agri dept scams: APW

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 25 - Voluntary organisation Assam Public Works (APW) today alleged that the kingpins of the Rs 700-crore agriculture department scam of the State are yet to be accessed by the investigating agencies. It has demanded arrest of all the heavyweights involved in the scam.

The APW alleged that the scam occurred during the implementation of the Rastriya Krishi Vikash Yojana (RKVY) and Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India (BGREI) schemes. However, the kingpins of the scams were the then Commissioner, MD, a retired Joint Director and a retired engineer and the then Production Commissioner. They have so far been spared by the investigating agency, it alleged.

It is indeed a fact that there was a big scam involving hundreds of crores of rupees in the agriculture department. The arrest of five officials of the department in connection with the scam yesterday is a proof of this, added the voluntary organisation. The then Agriculture Minister directed the entire show from behind the screen. Though the then Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi removed him from the post, his successor continued to patronize the scamsters, it said.
