ARPS closure issue comes up in House

By Correspondent

SHILLONG, March 21 - The decision of the Management Committee (MC) to close down the prestigious Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS) here was taken up in the Meghalaya Assembly today.

Jemino Mawthoh of United Democratic Party raised the issue during a Zero Hour Notice. The MC of ARPS has issued a closure notice from April 1 this year claiming bankruptcy.

Terming the decision of the MC as arbitrary, Mawthoh said, it would have an adverse effect on the large number of students and teaching staff. He urged the Government to immediately intervene in the matter.

Deputy CM in-charge Education RC Laloo expressing concern over the closure, said, the department has sought a report on the issue from the school authorities. The report stated about problems to pay staff as per the Central Pay Commission recommendations. The Minister said the Government would further engage with the school authorities to find an amicable solution to the issue.
