Army launches Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at Tezpur

GUWAHATI, Oct 8 � Along with the other parts of the State, the city of Tezpur joined the nationwide mass movement of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which began on October 2 in commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, a press release stated.

The civil administration, local citizens and Army launched a massive special cleanliness drive involving 'Shramdaan' and awareness activities on area cleanliness, health and hygiene. Lt General Anil Kumar Ahuja, GOC 4 Corps, Lalit Gogoi, Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur, Sanjukta Parasar, Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur and senior Army dignitaries took the oath for cleanliness to fulfill the aim of a 'Clean India' by October 2, 2019. All ranks of the Gajraj Corps also joined in to take the pledge along with the civilians.

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched at Mission Chariali here where a cross section of people from all sections of society of Tezpur city gathered to take the oath. A sustainable action programme will be put into place to include regular events on cleanliness, tree plantation, removal of garbage and improvement to infrastructure.

Gajraj Corps will also undertake a special drive to provide inaccessible villages with toilets through Op Sadbhavna projects. A concerted drive in the Army schools will also be undertaken. As a pillar of national strength, the Army is committed to building a 'Clean and Green India'. This can be achieved with synergy and involvement of all people, the release added.
