GUWAHATI, Jan 10 - As part of Army Day 2016 celebration, a blood donation camp was organised at Narangi Military Cantonment from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm today.
The camp was inaugurated by Major General AK Jha, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 51 Sub Area in presence of Brig TK Sahoo, Commandant 151 Base Hospital, Dr Babul Bezbaruah, Medical Superintendent Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Dr Tirtha Chaliha, Prof and Head of the Department of Pathology and in-charge of Blood Bank GMCH.
The inaugural ceremony was also attended by a large number of senior officers and troops of Narangi Military Station.��
The GOC in his inaugural address emphasised the importance of this noble gesture by which one can help in saving the life of a dying man and also insisted that every individual who is fit to donate blood must donate at least 3-4 times in his lifetime.
He lauded the help extended by Blood Bank of GMCH not only for the camp but also during any need for blood or blood products for the troops and families of the Indian Army.
He also stated that as a goodwill gesture to GMCH for providing constant support to the Army, all the collected blood units will be given to the Blood Bank of GMCH for the benefit of the general public.
The camp was attended by a large number of blood donors including senior officers of Indian Army where more than 250 units of blood were collected. Rave reviews were received from various civilian dignitaries who lauded this praiseworthy effort of the Indian Army for the general public.
