Arms peddlers apprehended in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, Sept 11 � Eight rifles including an AK-56 and some foreign weapons were recovered along with ammunition and explosive like detonator from a house in Kiphire village in Nagaland on September 9, according to PRO-IGAR (North).

The Assam Rifles personnel searched the house of one Yanglicho Sangtam in Kiphire village based on information about the person indulging in arms peddling. During the search eight rifles, ammunition and explosive like detonator were recovered. The person has been handed over to the police, the PRO-IGAR (North) added.

In another incident, based on specific information about an arms peddler, Assam Rifles jawans launched an operation in Burma Camp area in Dimapur on September 8 and apprehended one arms peddler along with one .22 pistol. In another operation in Ghorapatti area, the Assam Rifles caught one arms peddler along with two .22 pistols and two live rounds on September 9. The troops of Assam Rifles also recovered illicit liquor being smuggled from Tuli on September 6. They recovered 428 bottles of MC Dowell Rum at a check post at Tuli. The liquor was being smuggled in a Mahendra Bolero pickup bearing registration No AS-03 AC-8836. Two persons named Bijay Tati and Atul Mech were detained the vehicle seized.
