GUWAHATI, Dec 9 - In view of the recent eviction drive carried out in the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary, the Assam Real Estate & Infrastructure Developers Association (AREIDA) has appealed to the government to initiate a high level inquiry to ascertain how the protected forest land could be encroached upon and in some cases even converted into patta land. The AREIDA has opined that responsibility must first of all be fixed on officials who were in charge of such protected area.
In a statement, AREIDA president PK Sharma said that the erring officials should not be allowed to go scot-free and the hammer should not fall on the settlers alone.
The AREIDA called upon the Chief Minister to intervene in this matter in larger public interest.
