By Newmai News

IMPHAL, Sept 1 Volunteers of Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) nabbed two officers of Assam Rifles at Gampiphai area on NH-39 on Wednesday after a clash occurred between the Armed forces and SHDDC supporters. The SHDDC accused the Assam Rifles jawans of molesting three women volunteers of SHDDC during the melee. Seven volunteers were also injured in the incident.

Reports said that two personnel from 43 Assam Rifles came in civvies by a bike and attempted to pass through the barrier put up by the bandh supporters at around 9:30 am. When the SHDDC volunteers intervened, the two jawans told the bandh supporters that they (two AR men) do not need to take any permission for their movement from the SHDDC.

Minutes later, the jawans along with their colleagues came back. As they reached the barrier, there occurred a clash. In the melee three female volunteers were allegedly molested by the jawans and seven others were injured. The furious bandh supporters later overpowered the jawans and captured two Assam Rifles officers who hold the rank of Major.
