AR helps Manipur village get power

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, April 23 - 19 Assam Rifles (AR) recently operationalised a 5 KVA Solar power plant in Sehlon village, a remote area in Chandel district of Manipur that received electricity for the first time since Independence.

Sehlon village had no electricity and proper road connectivity. The village was being supplied with electricity from the generators of 19 Assam Rifles, Kakching Sector, also called 28 Sector AR, but it was envisaged to set up a solar power plant for making the villagers self-reliant in terms of electricity, said a press release received here today.

The launch of the solar power plant was accompanied by distribution of stationery items to school children of Sehlon village.

The solar plant has electrified all the 26 houses of the village. We are indebted to the efforts of Assam Rifles for having done so much for us, said a villager.
