Apuraj aims for new records

DIBRUGARH, Feb 21 � In an effort to instill competitive spirit among young minds, Apuraj Barooah, the Guinness World Record holder for drawing the longest piece of scratch art, is planning to register more records by staging a mega painting and singing event involving 10,000 people, mostly youths in the city here.

Authorities from the Guinness World Record have accepted the proposals from Apuraj for the performance. The record holder, who has also inscribed his name in the Limca Book of Records for his genre of scratch art, has already signed an agreement with the Guinness World Record authorities.

The event will be held in mid-May and authorities from the Guinness World Record are expected to witness it, Apuraj told mediapersons here today.

The painting will involve drawing the National Flag, National Emblem, National Bird, National Animal, National Flower, folk dances, monuments and portraits of famous personalities of 257 countries of the world by 10,000 youths, Apuraj Barooah said.

The length of the painting will be 1,000 metre with a breadth of 10 metres. Apuraj will also organise singing of the National Anthem by as many as 10,000 children. �Students of Upper Assam districts will be mainly given the opportunity to participant in both the events,� the record holder told media persons.

Renowned musician Syed Sadullah has consented to look after the singing event, Apuraj said.
