APSC celebrates foundation day

GUWAHATI, April 1 - The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) celebrated its 80th foundation day today with a daylong programme.

At the outset, the programme started with the lighting of lamp by chief guest Justice (retd) BP Katakey, former Judge, Gauhati High Court and Member (Judicial), Armed Forces Tribunal. It was followed by a Durga vandana and Borgeet presented by the artistes of the Cultural Department and Janasanyog, Government of Assam, respectively.

Justice Katakey, in his address, dwelt on the importance of public service commissions and urged the APSC to upload the answer sheets of the mains examination on the Commission�s website. �Constructive criticism is necessary for running any public service commission,� he added.

VK Pipersenia, Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, who also attended the function, released a souvenir published on the occasion.

As part of the celebration, a talk on �Role of the Public Service Commissions: Challenges & Public Expectations� was also held where former bureaucrat Bhaskar Baruah, and Dr Niru Hazarika, Prof & HoD (Retd), Political Science, Gauhati University, delivered lectures. Both the speakers offered various suggestions to the APSC to improve its functioning.

Earlier, RK Paul, Chairman, APSC, welcomed all the dignitaries and recalled the important milestones of the commission since its raising. He highlighted various reform activities over the years in its march towards excellence. He was confident that the commission would continue to strive for betterment with each passing day.
