UDALGURI, March 14 - A section of beneficiaries of Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) under Udalguri LAC have demanded that the inquiry into the CID inquiry instituted into the anomalies alleging that their names and ID codes were used to withdraw money without their notice, be completed before the nomination process for the Assembly elections begins. The allegation was put up by one Rohit Daimari, an IAY beneficiary who claimed that many persons like him were deprived of the IAY homes in the past also. A press meet to this effect was organised recently by Purno Daimari and Prashanta Khakhlari, the chief convenor and convenor of the election steering committee of Independent candidate, Anjali Prova Daimari here at Udalguri town.
Disclosing that large-scale anomalies in the IAY scheme in Udalguri LAC were detected, Purno Daimari, the chief convenor of the election steering committee of the Independent candidate said that the scam came into light after an RTI was filed by one Bhaben Basumatari, one of the IAY beneficiaries from Udalguri LAC. Daimari demanded prompt action against those found involved in this scam since 2012-13. He also informed that there were more than 1000 such beneficiaries who were denied IAY houses but the money for the construction of their IAY houses was withdrawn. He further informed the media persons that a CID case was recently lodged in this connection and the case was registered under Cell/ 4/R/73/2016-550. He demanded that the investigation into the case be expedited before the candidates filed their nominations for the Assembly elections from Udalguri LAC.
