GUWAHATI, Feb 20 � What is the meaning of a ghar or a house � is it actually a permanent address or just a temporary shelter? Seeking suitable answers to this most complex condition of life, a group of young artists took to the street on Monday as part of the project named Apna Hi Ghar Samjho.
This project, a public art procession, is an attempt at creating awareness about art and artists. Young artist Samudrakajal Saikia, who has taken the initiative to take art works closer to the common people, said that today�s art procession got warm response from the people.
The art procession started from Kahilipara at 12 pm and went up to Uzanbazar via Chandmari, attracting curious glances and many stopping and having a good look at the procession that was completed with five different types of houses each having a symbolic significance.
�The concept of public art procession is yet to gain popularity in Assam. But in view of the shortage of galleries in the State, such initiative will really help in providing an opportunity to the public about the latest experiments in the world of art,� said Saikia, adding that the theme of today�s procession was agreed upon after a lot of deliberation.
Saikia also said that such efforts also provide the common people an unforgettable experience.
�The idea of a ghar is different for different individuals. If we take a closer look, we will see that most of them are not happy inside their own house. They are always hungry for something more or better,� explained Saikia observing that life of inmates in different kind of houses actually reflects their yearnings and disappointments.
It needs to be mentioned here that this project was part of the ongoing Regional Art Performance and Event 2012 that began on February 10. A film on the art works of the North East will be screened on February 21 at Basistha and the curtains will come down on the extravaganza with a group discussion on February 22.
