GUWAHATI, May 31 - The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has passed a formal resolution calling upon party president Rahul Gandhi to reconsider his decision to resign from the post.

The resolution, signed by APCC chief Ripun Bora, former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, State Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia and other senior leaders, urged Gandhi to continue to lead the Congress party.

The State Congress leaders said that this is not the first time that the party has suffered such a setback in the elections.

They said that earlier also on several occasions the Congress party had witnessed such defeats but it has been able to revive itself in subsequent times.

We have full faith on the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, who has been leading the party from the front with tireless effort to fight the communal and divisive politics of BJP. In the coming days Rahul Gandhi can only lead the Congress party to fight this ideological battle and we also take the pledge today that we will work very hard under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi in the coming days, stated the resolution passed by the APCC.

Following the partys dismal performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi had announced his intention to give up the post of party president.
