APCC targets BJP over Manmohans contribution

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 21 - The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has dared the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to disprove the fact that the Congress-led Central Government with Dr Manmohan Singh as the Finance Minister in the 1990s had effected the turnaround in the countrys economy.

If the BJP cannot disprove this fact, then it has no right to complain that the APCC had committed a crime by getting Dr Singh elected to the Rajya Sabha despite his being an outsider, said APCC vice president Ripun Bora in a statement here.

Bora also claimed that under the stewardship of Dr Singh as the Prime Minister, the country could make headway and emerge as the global third force. Because of Dr Singh, Assam could get the second Saraighat Bridge over the Brahmaputra and the Dhala-Saikhowa-Sadiya Bridge. Because of his leadership, the implementation of the Gas Cracker Project could be expedited and the State could get the broad-gauge expansion project and other projects.

Though it has sent Sanjay Singh to the Rajya Sabha, the Congress has not allowed him to interfere with the States politics, Bora claimed.

He also alleged that the BJP with its recent act of making former militant Niranjan Hojai, who is yet to be exonerated by a court of law, the Chief Executive Member of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, has virtually patronised terrorism.
