APCC nod for Dima Hasao DCC urged

By CORRESPONDENT

HAFLONG, Sept 23 The delay in the approval of the Dima Hasao District Congress Committee and frequent interference by so-called APCC officials in the matter of Dima Hasao DCC (I) will put it in a bad shape, opined senior citizens and well-wishers of Congress here.

Sources in the Congress disclosed that along with the rest of the country, the election to the DCC (I) was held in 2010 but till now the results have not been announced. Samarjeet Haflongbar, Member of Autonomous Council, who was made ad hoc president of the Dima Hasao DCC (I) from December 26, 2008 to June 27, 2011, was removed from his post by Bhubaneswar Kalita, MP and president, APCC and Nolendra Karigapsa was made the president. Karigapsa, after assuming office, submitted a list to the APCC as desired for approval which has not been granted till date. Thus, delay in the approval of the Dima Hasao DCC (I) has paved the way for some unscrupulous Congressmen to promote their vested interests in the name of electing the president, executive members or high-ranking officials.

During the last election to the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council in 2007, the Congress got only three seats and the rest of the 25 seats were shared by the the ASDC- BJP alliance. During the political crisis in the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, almost all the members joined the Congress except Kulendra Daolagupu of the BJP and Mohet Hojai of the ASDC.

The joining of these leaders was not welcomed by some senior Congress leaders. This confusing situation was also taken advantage of by a few Congressmen who promised these newly-joined leaders party tickets and leadership reins.

Some sincere and active leaders among the newcomers are of the opinion that there should not be any discrimination among the new and old members, rather all the popular and active leaders should be included in the committee. There should also be precautionary measures so that no one among the opportunists get entry into the committee.

Conscious citizens and supporters here have appealed to all APCC leaders to take immediate steps to revive the Dima Hasao DCC (I) by approving of it.
