APCC moves President for Governors ouster

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 27 - The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today reiterated its demand for the immediate removal of the acting Governor of Assam, PB Acharya, for allegedly functioning like an agent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

In a memorandum sent to President Pranab Mukherjee through the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro, the APCC alleged that on November 22, the Governor had publicly stated, Hindustan is for Hindus only... Muslims living in India, if they feel insecure, can leave for either Pakistan or Bangladesh.

Stating that there have been widespread protests by different political parties and organisations, the APCC expressed the apprehension that such statements are fraught with the danger of creating rift among the people on communal lines. Moreover, it said the above statements of the Governor are an insult to the Constitution of the country and a threat to secularism, the basic foundation of the unity and culture of the country.

Therefore, we strongly believe that the continuance of Sri PB Acharya as Governor (acting) of Assam, with such ulterior political motive will shatter the social fabric of our country, said the APCC in its memorandum to the President, arguing that there is no alternative to sacking Acharya.

The memorandum was submitted to the DC by Congress members who had come in a procession from the Bharalumukh Sonaram HS School playground to the DCs office.

According to APCC sources, around 15,000 Congress members and sympathisers took part in the procession.
