APCC condemns BJP for manhandling act

By STAFF Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, June 4 The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has condemned the alleged manhandling of Ashwini Dowerah, the principal of Salt Brook Academy by the Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan of the BJP and his partymen during the NDA sponsored Bharat bandh recently.

APCC general secretary Atuwa Munda said that terrorising principal and staff of an educational institute to impose a bandh is shameful and socially not acceptable. Prasanta Phukan has shown disrespect to the sanctity of the educational institute and such acts cannot be tolerated. It is unfortunate that the event was steered by the local BJP MLA, the APCC general secretary stated. The APCC has warned the BJP against such behaviour in future.

The staff and students of Salt Brook School here observed black day by wearing black badges to demonstrate their protest, displeasure and grief over the incident. In a joint press statement, the staff and students said that MLA Prasanta Phukan transgressed into the property of Salt Brook Academy for keeping the institution open during the Bharat bandh.

However, a BJP statement denied manhandling of the principal by the MLA and the party workers. The town mandal committee of the BJP alleged that the principal misbehaved with BJP cadres, leading to altercations.
