GUWAHATI, Jan 16 - Mera Wo Matlab Nahi Tha, a critically acclaimed play featuring veteran actors like Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta and Rakesh Bedi, will be staged at the GMCH Auditorium from 5.15 pm tomorrow.

The play, written and directed by Rakesh Bedi, revolves around the protagonist (Kher), his struggles in life and love.

Briefing on the play, Anupam Kher said that 75 shows of the play have already been staged across the country and the tickets were sold off even before the booking window was opened.

After many years, a quality modern Indian play has emerged on the scene, which the people of Assam would enjoy thoroughly, said Kher, adding that the play witnessed packed houses in international venues in America, Quwait, Dubai and Singapore where the play was staged.

Asked about his role in the play, Kher said, Portraying a realistic role realistically is the biggest challenge for an actor. It is very difficult to essay the role of a common man compared to historical characters. The play, Mera Wo Matlab Nahi Tha is one of those challenging roles. The play is being produced by Anupam Kher.

Actor-director Rakesh Bedi, too, said that it was nice to be associated with a social cause as the funds collected through the play would be donated for social causes.

I am sure people will love the show and with Kher and Neena Gupta, it was never difficult to draw quality audiences, Bedi said.

The play is being organised under the aegis of the Guwahati Greater branch of the Marwari Yuva Manch.
