Anundoram Borooah Awards doubtful this year

By Correspondent

UDALGURI, Nov 2 - The guardians and HSLC candidates of 2015 session have expressed doubts regarding the prestigious Anundoram Borooah Awards to be conferred upon the candidates who passed the last HSLC and equivalent final examinations with flying colours.

A guardian of an HSLC candidate told this correspondent here at Udalguri that he felt there was very little chance of the State Government awarding the HSLC candidates this time, as unlike in previous years, the time of presenting the prestigious award is now almost over with the HSLC examination 2016 almost at hand. At least, the State Government should have encouraged the budding talents, but it was too late now, he observed.

An HSLC candidate of last year hoped that the students would soon be called upon by the Education department like in previous years to receive the prestigious award, instituted in the name of one of the most illustrious sons of the State, as it is the duty of the State to boost the morale of the younger generation.

It is to be noted that the State Government had launched the award in the name of the renowned Sanskrit scholar of the State, way back in 2001 and since then every year, the first division holders of the HSLC and High Madrassa examinations were being presented a laptop and a proficiency certificate respectively. Since 2014, the State Government had instituted another award of a tablet and proficiency certificate respectively to the second division holders in the HSLC and equivalent examinations.
