Anti-diarrhoea campaign under way in Hailakandi

HAILAKANDI, May 29 - The Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) is under way in Hailakandi district.

The fortnight-long programme was launched by Additional Deputy Commissioner Ranadip Dam in presence of District Immunization Officer and Superintendent at SK Roy Civil Hospital on Tuesday.

Different programmes for prevention and control of diarrhoea targeting 0-5 children will be carried out in an intensified manner till June 9 across the district. The set of activities include intensification of advocacy and awareness generation activities for diarrhoea management, strengthening service provision for diarrhoea case management, establishment of ORS-Zinc corners, prepositioning of ORS by ASHAs in households and awareness generation activities for hygiene and sanitation.

�The goal of IDCF is to attain zero child deaths due to diarrhoea,� said District Media Expert, Monika Das.

The IDCF strategy is three-pronged with focus on improved availability and use of ORS and zinc at the community level; facility level strengthening to manage cases of dehydration and enhanced advocacy and communication on prevention and control of diarrhoea through IEC campaign.

Das said distribution of ORS and demonstration of IPC activities by ANMs on hygiene and sanitation along with management of diarrhoea at community and village levels will be carried out in an intensified and organised manner.

As part of the programme, hand washing demonstration will be held in schools by the health functionaries and Public Health Engineering department personnel. Mobile health teams will also fan out in urban areas.
