Anti-corruption drive in full swing: CM

SONARI, May 26 - �The fight against corruption is full of challenges and the Assam government has accepted this challenge. Now the anti-corruption drive is in full swing,� said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today at a public meeting held at Lakwa Thermal Power Station�s play ground, Maibella.

He also assured the people that this government would nothing against their interest. He was speaking about the ongoing misinformation being spread all over the State by questioning his government�s integrity.

Sonowal praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his bold stand against corruption. He said that the previous government�s term was full of corruption but the four-year term of Narendra Modi�s government was completely free from any corruption charges. Inaugurating the 70 MW Lakwa Replacement Power Project at Lakwa Thermal Power Station, Maibella the Chief Minister said the gas engine-based power project was a step towards incorporating newer state of the art of technology and thereby moving towards a better future.

Addressing the meeting as the distinguished guest, Topon Kumar Gogoi, Minister of Power (Independent) and PWD said the gas engine-based power project was the first of its kind in Assam which was completed within the scheduled time frame. He also said Assam would be able to generate its full power requirement within 10 years.

Delivering the inaugural speech, Jishnu Baruah, Chairman, Assam Power Generation Company Limited and Principal Secretary Power (E) said the old Phase-l power plant (4x15 MW) was replaced in LTPS with the state-of-the-art Wartsila make 7x10 MW Gas Engine Generating units and the similar age-old gas turbines of Namrup Thermal Power Station were going to be replaced with a new BHEL-made gas turbine. He said the capacity to generate power in LTPS was increased to 167.2 MW with three gas turbine units, one Waste Heat Recovery unit and seven gas engine units.

Kalyani Baruah, Managing Director, APGCL delivered the welcome address while Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MP Jorhat addressed the meeting as the guest of honour. Jugen Mohan, MLA Mahmora, Kushal Duari, MLA Thawra, Chakra Gogoi, MLA Moran, Pallab Kumar Jha, Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar, Vivekananda Phukon, Deputy Commissioner, Charaideo were also present in the meeting beside other dignitaries.'
