Anti-CAB protest in Cachar

SILCHAR, Dec 12 - People intensified their protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill in various parts of Cachar district.

People opposing the Bill assembled in front of the Khudiram Bose statue and shouted slogans against the BJP government. During the protest many were seen slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and other BJP leaders and demanded scrapping the Bill. �The Bill, which has been passed, is grossly against the Constitution of the country and the people of Assam shall never accept its imposition,� said Nazia Yesmin, a frontline protester.

A section of students of Silchar Polytechnic also staged a democratic protest opposing the Bill. Also there were outbursts of anger on the Bill by protesters as they burnt tyres at Ramnagar area on the outskirts of Silchar.

On the other hand, Additional SP ( headquarter) Cachar Jagadish Das while speaking to The Assam Tribune informed that there have been protests at various places, however the agitators were dispersed and situation across the district is by and large peaceful.

Meanwhile, mobile and internet services have been affected in the district since Thursday afternoon. A senior telecom official here informed that while an order to restrict mobile internet services for 10 districts was issued on Wednesday, a fresh order was issued on Thursday restricting the mobile internet services across the state for 48 hours.
