Annual session of Rongpur Sahitya Sabha held

SIVASAGAR, Dec 31 - The Rongpur Sahitya Sabha organised its annual session today at its Borpukhuri par office with a day-long programme.

Manoj Borthakur, president, Rongpur Sahitya Sabha hoisted the flag in the morning and presided over the open meeting. Sonaram Boruah, former principal, Sivasagar Girls� College and president, district Sahitya Sabha and Dhirendranath Bhunya, former president, Rongpur Sahitya Sabha were felicitated by the sabha for their contribution to the society and sahitya sabha. The Sabha also mourned the death of noted educationist and a distinguished writer Mangala Deori today.

Dipandita Bora, lecturer, Sampurna Jr College, delivered a speech on �Modern Assamese Lyrical literature� and dwelt at length on the long tradition of lyrical poems and songs from Lakhiram Baruah to Zubeen Garg. She spoke on the contribution of lyricists like Lakshminath Bezbaroa, Padmanath Gohain Baruah, Jatindranath Duara, Anandiram Das, Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Parbati Prasad Baruva, Bhupen Hazarika, Purushottam Das, Anukul Das, Rani Pal, Kamal Narayan Choudhury, Lakshahira Das, Nirmal Prabha Bordoloi, Kesab Mahanta, Navakanta Barua, Parag Chaliha and many more of the present era. The meeting was also addressed by Nilamoni Mahanta, Mukul Nath, Uzzal Thakur, Santosh Dutta and Janam Kkamikar. Sonaram Baruah released a poetry collection written by Apurva Bhunya while Dhirendranath Bhunya released the souvenir Nava Mallika.
