Annual meet of socio-cultural body held

GUWAHATI, June 2 - The annual meet of Bharatiyam, a socio-cultural NGO that promotes educational activities among the deprived children in particular and society in general, was held at the Vivekananda Vidya Bharati College here recently, according to a press release issued today.

The invited guests on the occasion were Humi Thaosen, Assistant Professor, Department of Anthropology, Gauhati University and Chameli Gupta, noted educationalist from SFS School, Narengi.

To mark the occasion, a colourful exhibition based on the arts and crafts of Assam was held, along with an entertaining cultural programme. Moreover, saplings were planted and awareness was created for social issues such as banning the use of plastic, stopping wastage of water and promoting moral education.

On the occasion, awards were distributed to the people for their literary talents and social workers were acknowledged. The entire programme was held at the initiative of Chiranjib Roy, president of Bharatiyam, assisted by the NGO�s core members and well-wishers.
